About the German Keyboard Layout
The QWERTZ layout is the standard for German keyboards. While it looks very similar to English keyboards, you’ll notice that the “Y” and “Z” keys are swapped, since the letter “Z” is used much more frequently in German than in English.
In addition, the German keyboard includes special characters that are essential for correct spelling, such as:
- ä
- ö
- ü
- ß
On some international or European keyboards, these special letters may not have dedicated keys and require awkward key combinations to type. That’s why our virtual German keyboard makes it easy: you can insert all German characters with just a click, no shortcuts needed.
Virtual Keyboard Options
You can choose between:
- German (Standard QWERTZ)
- German (IBM layout)
Both layouts allow you to type German text smoothly and correctly, whether you’re writing for personal, business, or official purposes.
